My spouse's posting is decided by her employer. How does a Shannon TN application handle her?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

A TN review covers only the civilian applicant and any dependants who would seek TD status. A spouse whose location and status are governed by her own employer is recorded as such, and no assumption is made about where she will be or what her employer permits.

Record what you control and flag what you do not

TD status is available to the spouse and unmarried children under 21 of a TN professional, permits study, and does not permit employment. That is the whole of what immigration law offers the household, and it applies only to people who actually choose to accompany the principal as dependants. Hypothetical example: a Shannon systems analyst taking a Colorado position has a spouse who serves in the military; her postings, absences and any U.S.

travel are governed by her employer and are outside this review, which should say so plainly rather than guess. The household plan therefore has two parts: the analyst's TN application with the children as TD dependants if they move, and a note that the spouse's arrangements are decided elsewhere and may change. Children's schooling is permitted on TD.

If the spouse later wishes to join in her own right, that becomes a fresh question with its own facts, not an extension of the analyst's file.
