U.S. visa support for Canadians
ready for what’s next.
Hypothetical example: an actuary at an insurance head office in Lévis is offered an eighteen-month rotation to the group's U.S. subsidiary, while her spouse, a certified welding inspector, has been sounded out by a U.S. fabrication contractor for project work. Two offers, two employers, two sets of rules. The rotation turns on the corporate link and the actuary's duties; the inspection work turns on whether the position fits a listed profession and who would actually employ him. Reviewing them as one move hides the fact that they may not even use the same process.
The routes that recur in Lévis files are TN for named professional occupations, L-1A and L-1B for transfers inside a corporate group, E-2 for a treaty national who buys or builds and runs a U.S. business, EB-5 for a job-creating immigrant investment, and the Gold Card, which the official program describes as a gift-based path rather than a visa in the ordinary sense. What separates them is not the size of the opportunity but which facts they test: passport, employer chain, ownership, money, and what each person will actually do once there.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
The letter follows the facts, never the other way around.

Work from the paper that created the opportunity. A rotation memo, a purchase term sheet or a contractor's scope of work each says something precise about duties, control and dates, and each is silent about something that matters. Read it for what it commits the other party to, then write down the facts nobody has yet confirmed in writing. Only after that is it worth pulling diplomas, employment letters or bank histories, because the first document tells you which of those records will be decisive.

Personal support.
A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.
Write down who pays, who assigns the work and where it is performed. A Lévis employer lending a specialist to a U.S. affiliate, a U.S. company hiring directly and a client engaging a contractor are three different employment facts.
For every claim on the list, identify the document that proves it and the person who can produce it. A fact that only exists in conversation is a gap, and gaps are cheaper to close before a filing than after a question from an officer.
Each route has one condition that most often fails: profession fit for TN, the qualifying year for L-1, control for E-2, job creation for EB-5. Check that condition first rather than the one that looks easiest to meet.
Decide what must be signed, funded or approved before anything else, and which steps can wait. A lease, a share transfer and a school registration should not all be dated before the immigration question has an answer.
There is no need to arrive with a category chosen. Bring the offers as they were written, in French or English, with the questions that keep you awake: whether a spouse can work, whether a permanent-residence card counts, whether a start date is realistic. Sorting the situation into legal questions is part of the review, not something a household has to complete beforehand.
Find your pathwayConsultations for Lévis households are conducted remotely by Shneur Herman, Jo Kubti and Alexander Paton. Before booking, write a paragraph describing each opportunity, list the documents you already hold, and note the decisions with a deadline attached. Ask what the review will and will not cover; immigration eligibility, business due diligence and cross-border tax are separate disciplines, and a good answer on one is not an answer on the others.

No. Federal immigration rules are the same for every Canadian municipality. What changes between households is the employer, the passport, the money and the duties, and those are the facts a review examines.
It makes L-1 worth examining, nothing more. The corporate relationship, a full qualifying year of employment abroad, and the managerial, executive or specialized-knowledge nature of the U.S. role each have to be documented separately.
Relocation allowances are commercial terms between you and the employer. They neither speed up nor replace the immigration steps, so keep them on a separate line from filing charges and professional fees.
No. TN requires Canadian or Mexican citizenship. Permanent residence in Canada is a different status, and each family member's own citizenship has to be checked rather than assumed from the household's.
