LAC-BEAUPORT · TN FIELD GUIDE

What does a Lac-Beauport applicant actually pay for a TN case, and what is optional?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

The mandatory items are the government charge for the admission route chosen and the cost of any credential the profession requires. Translations, evaluations and legal review are optional in principle and often necessary in practice; check the USCIS fee schedule for current amounts.

Separate what the rule requires from what the file needs

Start with the route. A port-of-entry application carries a modest admission charge; an I-129 petition filed by the employer carries the petition fee listed in the USCIS G-1055 schedule, and sometimes an optional premium-processing fee if the employer wants a fast written decision. Those are set by the government and cannot be negotiated.

The second layer depends on the profession. A health professional may have to pay for a state licence application, an examination, and a verification of Québec credentials before the licence can issue, and those costs exist whether or not the immigration case succeeds. The third layer is discretionary: a credential evaluation is only worth buying if the Appendix 2 entry and the diploma title do not obviously correspond; a translation is only needed for documents the officer must read.

Ask the employer in writing which of these costs it will cover, since many U.S. employers reimburse petition fees but not licensing. Keep household moving costs on a separate ledger.
