A Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures college instructor's TN file: which document actually carries the qualification
Hypothetical example: an instructor in a technical program at a college in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is offered a teaching post at a U.S. community college. The Appendix 2 entry for teachers at the college, seminary or university level requires a baccalaureate or Licenciatura degree; no licence substitutes, and years in the classroom do not either. Her file therefore turns on one document, the degree, and on a letter from the U.S. college that describes teaching duties rather than program coordination.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- Find the entry, then find the document it names
- Make the U.S. college describe teaching
- Sequence the presentation and the household
When the Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures technician holds permanent residence and the spouse holds the passport
Hypothetical example: a warehouse-automation technician working in an industrial park in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is a French citizen with Canadian permanent residence; his wife is a Canadian citizen. A U.S. integrator wants him for a year. His PR card makes him a Canadian resident, not a Canadian citizen, so TN is closed to him. His French nationality, however, is a treaty nationality for E-2 purposes, and his wife's Canadian citizenship opens TN to her. The route follows the passport, not the address.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- Write each person's nationality next to each route
- Test the actual offer against the routes that remain
- Keep the Canadian obligations on the same page
What secures the loan: reading a Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures buyer's truck-wash financing for E-2
Hypothetical example: a Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures owner-operator plans to buy a truck-wash and fleet-maintenance shop in a U.S. border state with part savings, part a bank loan against his Québec home, and part a note carried by the seller. E-2 counts funds that are the investor's own and at risk. A loan secured by his personal assets can qualify; a seller note secured by the shop's own equipment and receivables is not the investor's capital at risk, because the enterprise itself is the collateral. The security clause, not the loan's label, decides the answer.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- Read the security clause in each financing document
- Recompute substantiality after the clause is settled
- Sequence the money so nothing irrevocable happens too early
A Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures precast producer's U.S. yard is leased but not yet permitted: what the L-1A file should say
Hypothetical example: a precast-concrete producer in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures has signed a lease on a yard in a U.S. state for its first American plant and wants its operations manager to open it, but local permitting for the casting beds and cranes will take months. A new-office L-1A requires secured premises and a plan showing the operation will support a managerial role within a year. A signed lease on a site that cannot yet be used is still secured premises; the question is how honestly the plan handles the permitting gap.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- State what the lease secures and what it does not
- Build the year-one plan around the delay, not despite it
- Prepare the extension file from the first month
Eight months in, with savings to invest: a Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures employee weighs L-1 against E-2
Hypothetical example: a bilingual sales manager joined an agricultural-equipment dealer in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures eight months ago and has been asked to set up its first U.S. branch. She also has personal savings and could instead buy into a U.S. dealership herself. L-1 requires one continuous year of qualifying employment abroad within the last three, which she has not completed; E-2 asks nothing about employment history but requires her own substantial capital at risk in an enterprise she directs. The sequencing question is whether to wait four months or change roles entirely.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- Check what each route needs from her, today
- Weigh what each route asks of the employer
- Do not mix the two files to shorten the wait
When the spouse is a nurse and the child is nineteen: a Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures family plans two careers and one deadline
Hypothetical example: a quality-assurance manager at a pharmaceutical distributor in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures receives a U.S. offer, his wife is a registered nurse who wants to keep practising, and their daughter is nineteen and midway through college. If he travels on TN, his wife as a TD dependant could not work, but Registered Nurse is itself an Appendix 2 profession with a licence rule, so she may qualify for TN in her own right. The daughter can study in TD, but her twenty-first birthday sets a hard deadline for that status.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- Give the nurse her own file
- Put the daughter's birthday on the calendar first
- Decide what moves together and what waits
Liquidity, tax and time: how a Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures executive should question EB-5 and the Gold Card
Hypothetical example: a senior executive at a distribution company in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, a few years from retirement with a liquid portfolio, is weighing an EB-5 regional-center investment against the individual Gold Card. EB-5 places US$1,050,000, or US$800,000 in a qualifying targeted employment area, at risk in a job-creating enterprise and leads to two-year conditional residence. The Gold Card, per the official FAQ recorded September 7, 2026, involves a US$1 million gift and a US$15,000 nonrefundable fee, leading to EB-1 or EB-2 permanent residence for eligible applicants. The right questions concern liquidity, tax and what the money does.
WHAT THIS GUIDE COVERS
- Ask what happens to the money in each case
- Ask what each route requires the applicant to prove
- Ask how long each path keeps the family in Canada
