A new route.Know the details.

The official Gold Card FAQ describes a process involving a nonrefundable processing fee, vetting, and a gift to the United States. Successful eligible applicants receive permanent residence through EB-1 or EB-2 as determined by the authorities and subject to visa availability. This is not a conventional visa category. A Québec City applicant should distinguish this framework clearly from an EB-5 commercial investment and job-creation proposal; the capacity to make a payment does not remove the underlying eligibility or admissibility requirements. A first review should confirm the precise official terms, the applicant’s admissibility, and the family members actually included before any payment is made. The Gold Card is not a conventional visa: it describes a payment by the applicant to the U.S. government, rather than an investment that creates ownership or a return.

01

Identify whether the individual or corporate track applies

The official FAQ describes different terms for individuals and for corporate sponsorship. As checked on September 7, 2026, an individual principal's stated gift is US$1 million with a US$15,000 nonrefundable processing fee; corporate principal sponsorship describes a US$2 million gift per sponsored employee, with its own additional terms. Confirm the current operative instructions for the actual proposal before any payment is made. Obtain written confirmation of who will make the payment and under which track before treating a job offer as sponsorship. A corporate payment arrangement may create employment questions that the individual track does not answer.

02

Calculate the household commitment person by person

The FAQ states additional US$15,000 processing fees and US$1 million gifts for each accompanying spouse or eligible unmarried child under 21 included in the application. Hypothetical example: a Québec City household reads the individual headline figure and assumes it already covers everyone. Rebuild the budget for each person actually included, and confirm eligibility and charges individually rather than treating the principal's figure as the household total. Prepare a person-by-person table with relationship, age, civil documents, charge, and any issue that requires separate advice. The principal’s apparent eligibility does not settle a dependent’s inclusion.

03

Keep vetting and legal eligibility separate from the payment itself

The official process describes an application and fee, further USCIS instructions and supporting documents, vetting, and the subsequent gift once instructed. The applicant must still be eligible for lawful permanent residence, admissible, and have a visa available. A financial commitment should never be described as automatic approval, citizenship, or a guaranteed processing date, and the exact classification should be reviewed with counsel against the applicant's individual circumstances. Screen prior immigration history, criminal matters, and source-of-funds evidence before a nonrefundable payment decision. Payment does not waive vetting or replace the documentary standards of any immigrant classification used.

04

Compare the consequences with other permanent-residence routes

A gift is different in kind from capital invested in an enterprise that carries potential commercial return and risk. Compare the legal evidence, family treatment, financial exposure and tax implications of each route independently rather than as two prices for the same result. The official Gold Card FAQ is a dated source rather than a guarantee that every current term remains unchanged, so recheck the current instructions before acting on any prepared plan. Compare the permanent loss of the gift payment with the distinct risks, obligations, and potential return of other routes. The decision should be framed as a legal and financial commitment, not as a purchase of guaranteed admission.
